Stop paving cow paths with AI

My final observation: job roles are converging into generalists and cross-functional hybrids. No more classic PM/Eng/UX split. PMs who code. Engineers who write user stories.
The emergence of "vibe coding", where product managers use generative AI to produce actual applications through prompts, has led Google, Stripe, and Netflix to introduce AI-prototyping rounds into PM interview loops. The boundaries defining product management, engineering, and design are dissolving as AI democratizes technical capabilities.
This convergence is driven by multiple forces: economic pressure to "do more with less," AI tools enabling non-technical people to perform technical work, and simplified development toolsets. By 2024, low-code/no-code comprises over 65% of all application development activity.
The World Economic Forum predicts 44% of current skills will be disrupted in the next five years. Strict role boundaries are dying. The question isn't whether this trend continues, it's whether organizations can manage it without burning out their people or losing critical depth.

The competitive implications are sobering. AI leaders already achieve 1.5x higher revenue growth and 1.6x greater shareholder returns compared to laggards. This gap will widen dramatically as leaders scale solutions while others remain trapped in pilot purgatory.
The reckoning
The CIO AI Summit's frank conversations revealed what most won't say publicly: we're in the midst of a collective reckoning. The gap between AI promise and AI reality has become too large to ignore.
The technology is ready. The business case is proven. The only question is whether leadership will embrace the magnitude of organizational change required.
